There is another type of air conditioning system, called ductless air conditioning or the mini-split air conditioner. It is just like conventional air conditioning, without the duct system. It uses an outdoor condenser and up to 4 indoor wall mounted air handlers. Some mini-splits can be used for heating in the winter. Their applications include jobs where installation of duct systems is cumbersome or expensive, cooling and heating small areas or additions, and computer rooms.
The beauty of mini-split systems is that they are flexible. You can create zoned heating and cooling areas by adding up to four indoor units for each outdoor unit. Since there is no duct system, their installation is often easier than conventional air conditioning systems.
