A Trane hybrid split system pairs an electric heat pump- such as an ultra-efficient XL15i, XL16i or XL20i- with a high-efficiency gas furnace. In the winter, the Xli heat pump captures the heat that is always present in the air outside and pulls it inside. A furnace burns natural gas to heat your home. When these two components are used together in a hybrid System, you can decide which form of heat to use- electric or gas- depending on current energy costs.
A hybrid split system also works efficiently in the summer, when the heat pump acts as an air conditioner, pulling heat out of your home and releasing it outdoors.
